Taselaar and Team Bliksem Continue
Their Winning Ways in Italy
April 30 – May 2, 2010
Scarlino, Italy
Pieter Taselaar and his Bliksem team continued their hot streak in Europe by comfortably winning the Melges 32 Audi Sailing Series event, which was held in Scarlino, Italy April 30 – May 2, 2010. While in second place after the first day of racing, Taselaar dominated the following races and never finished outside of the top three in order to win in the competitive 17-boat fleet.

Conditions were picture perfect for the event with medium winds on the first and last days that book ended a breezy and wavy second day of the event. Team Bliksem showed solid tactics courtesy of Jeremy Wilmont and, coupled with blazing boatspeed, served notice to the European fleet that they were still the team to beat.
The Melges 32 fleet returned to Long Island Sound for the East Coast Championships, sailed May 14-16, 2010, at American Yacht Club. Both LYC Melges 32 teams, Bliksem and Jason Carroll’s Argo, were in attendance. While both teams won races, a sail measurement violation on Bliksem and inconsistent finishes from Argo left both teams off the podium.
The LYC Melges 32 teams hit the road again for the season sailing in Newport and Michigan before heading to San Francisco for the class World Championships in September.
