LYC hosted the 2010 Ideal 18 North American Championship, and LYC members occupied two of the three places on the podium.  Pierce McCreary, crewing for brother and past North American champion Jamie McCreary from Indian Harbor YC, won the event with five bullets in the 11-race series.  LYC member Peter Beardsley with crew Gabe Jostrom finished second, three points ahead of two-time North American champions Shane Olney and Chris Dorsey from Rochester YC.

Sailors from eight clubs in Long Island Sound joined six savvy and seasoned teams from Rochester in the 22-boat fleet.  The regatta featured sunny skies and 5-9 knots of wind all weekend, with Saturday’s breeze blowing from the east and bringing moderate chop, and Sunday showing flatter water in a southwest wind.  The McCreary brothers led by four points after seven races on Saturday over Beardsley/Jostrom.  LYC member Tom Ingram with crew Dan Walsh won the first race on Sunday to tighten the standings and finished fourth overall, as past champions Olney/Dorsey, and four-time champions Skip Shumway/Dan Lawless from Rochester adjusted to sailing in the Sound to finish with a flourish.  Results
