LYC Teams with Storm Trysail Foundation
to Host Intercollegiate Offshore Regatta

October 9-10, 2009

Larchmont, NY

LYC teamed with the Storm Trysail Foundation for the ninth consecutive year to host the Intercollegiate Offshore Regatta. The event is unique in collegiate sailing, where teams are given the keys to borrowed keelboats over Columbus Day weekend as a break from the dinghy sailing that dominates their seasons.

327 sailors from 31 schools composed 40 teams competing in five divisions on boats ranging from J/44s to J/105s.  Brisk winds allowed for six races, with the University of Rhode Island, sailing aboard LYC member Rich Du Moulin's Express 37 Lora Ann, winning the Paul Hoffmann Trophy for the best overall performance, named in memory of Paul Hoffmann, Sr., an active ocean racer and long-time member of both LYC and the Storm Trysail Club.  The event would not be possible without the efforts of many LYC members, including Principal Race Officer Charles "Butch" Ulmer, Chief Judge Arthur Wullschleger, Protest Committee Chair Mary Savage and the five LYC boat owners who donated their boats to college teams for the weekend.  For complete results, photos and a detailed press release, please visit the event website.
