LYC Sailors Take Podium Spots at

Vanguard 15 New England Championship

Seven teams from LYC traveled up I-95 to compete at the 2009 Vanguard 15 New England Championship at Cedar Point YC. LYC teams won three of the five trophies, led by Danny Pletsch and Emily Whipple’s win by one point. Sean and Susan Doyle finished third, and summer sailing member David Meleney and crew Elizabeth Hawkins finished fourth.

Pletsch and Whipple trailed eventual second place finisher Zach Brown of Yale Corinthian YC after six races in Saturday’s building northerly. Sunday’s shiftier southeasterly allowed the LYC team to slip ahead by a single point over the remaining four races for the win. John and Molly Baxter sailed a strong event and would likely have been on the podium but opted to let Cardwell Potts skipper the final two races, precluding them from having their scores combined. Jason Carroll, Peter Beardsley, Lily Beck and summer sailing members Julie Wilson and Weston Friedman also competed at the event. Results.
