Race Week 2016

Dear Sailors,

Welcome to Larchmont Yacht Club’s 118th Race Week. In continuing this long-standing yachting tradition, sailors from more than 45 clubs will test their skills and enjoy the camaraderie that only such an event can provide with over 700 juniors racing mid-week, and with Senior One-Design and Cruising yachts on both weekends.
Acknowledging that summer winds on the Sound frequently are better in the afternoons, the Cruising yachts’ starts have been moved into the afternoon. The two Saturdays will see customary windward-leeward courses and the Sundays will race around government marks Pursuit style on the first Sunday, and a our second annual “Around Execution Rocks” sprint race on the final Sunday. To encourage family teams and others to bring non racers aboard, PHRF and IRC weight limits will not be enforced.
Ashore, the social activities and dining opportunities offered throughout Race Week will emphasize fun activities into the evening for sailors as they come off the water on both weekends. In addition to the jam-packed days of sailing, a highlight
of the Junior program will be the dance on Tuesday evening, as it always has been. Please make your plans and reservations as early as possible.
All of this can only take place with tremendous planning and effort
from all our staff and hundreds of member volunteers. On behalf
of my fellow officers and trustees I want to thank all those involved
with Race Week for their contributions.
Again, welcome, and above all, I hope you enjoy this great event!

Tim Porter, Commodore
