The Edlu Race

59th Annual Distance Race

May 10, 2014

For IRC and PHRF boats

(Double-handed spinnaker class if enough entries are received)

(Non-spinnaker class if enough entries are received)

The format of the race was changed in 2005 to transform the race to a day race.  The start is now earlier and the course is set to a distance that anticipates a finish before sunset.  The course is 32 miles from Larchmont Breakwater to Gong 11B off Eaton's Neck and back.

Last year we moved the start time just a little earlier to get everyone back to LYC in time for BBQ with Awards and will do the same this year.

New this year Plus-One Racing Option

Plus-One was described in the YRA Distance Racing Yearbook, and it means you carry about half the crew you used to.  Crew limits are easy to calculate: take the tens-digit of your boat's length and add one.  I.e., a boat from 20 to 29.99 feet would carry three in total, a boat from 30 to 39.99 feet would have four, and a boat in the forties would sail with five. Hence the "Plus One" name. Having a smaller crew size means it is easier to fill your crew slots, no one on the boat is just human ballast, and your lunch and bar tab will be much smaller.
