2009 Marks the
111th Larchmont Race Week
BATTLE OF THE CHAMPIONS
Preamble to the Notice of Race
The Battle of Champions is intended to give the leaders in each class of Larchmont Senior Race Week the opportunity to sail against each other, in a test of skill, mettle and just plain luck, while providing entertainment to the spectators on shore.
The B of C will be sailed in club owned Ideal 18s, with a crew of two. The helmsman must be the registered owner/skipper on the Race Week entry form of the leading yacht, the crew maybe anyone from said yachts crew.
The format is a series of extremely short one-on –one elimination races under fleet racing rules. The start will be a 1 ½ minute dinghy start. It is sudden death, the winner proceeds to the next round, the loser is eliminated. There will be on the water judging (or off the dock) with no right to appeal. Time permitting the two finalists will have a best of three race sail-off.
The race course will be in the Ideal 18 mooring area so that races can be watched from the front lawn and pool areas. Although there will be no Ideals on the moorings, competitors will need to avoid the mooring balls and tackle. Deal with it!
There will be a running commentary of the racing on shore that may or may not be accurate or meaningful. The participants should ignore any comments they hear on the club’s PA system or from the spectators cheering them on.
Because the B of C is sudden death there will be no redress for breakdowns or equipment failures. Dry your tears let the RC buy you a (as in 1) drink and come back next year.
The winner will get be awarded Bragging Rights along with some form of award.
So before you start, remember, the B of C is not meant as a serious sailing event, just a chance to have some fun and show some fellow sailors who the biggest, badest dog is.
Avoid contact, have fun and wear your PFD.
Now for the fine print, please read The Official Notice of Race.
